Waiting on Wednesday: Blaze by Laurie Boyle C.

BLAZE
Laurie Boyle Crompton
Blaze is tired of spending her life on the sidelines, drawing comics and feeling invisible. She's desperate for soccer star Mark to notice her. And when her BFF texts Mark a photo of Blaze in sexy lingerie, it definitely gets his attention. After a hot date in the back of her minivan, Blaze is flying high, but suddenly Mark's feelings seem to have been blasted by a freeze-ray gun, and he dumps her. Blaze gets her revenge by posting a comic strip featuring uber-villain Mark the Shark. Mark then retaliates by posting her "sext" photo, and, overnight, Blaze goes from Super Virgin Girl to Super Slut. That life on the sidelines is looking pretty good right about now...

I loooove the sound of this book.
I usually love this books where you can relate to the MC and my life is definitely quiet enough to compete with Blaze's for the Most Boring award. Good thing I like it that way, because who knows if I might be stuck in a situation like her...

That doesn't mean that I am not completely stocked to see how this turns out :D

Review: Angelfall by Susan Ee

You guys remember the feeling, back in the day, when we all read The Hunger Games? Remember how it blew our collective minds and left us with the feeling of “Oh this is great, this will transcend”? I felt that again today as I devoured the first installment of the Penryn & the End of Days series, Angelfall.

Fast-paced, to the point, and packed of action and emotion, this book took me back to the days when I was genuinely excited about a story. It’s been a long time since I got this mentally invested in a dystopian book and I’m glad it happened because I needed a story that reassured me that not all of them are a marketing idea and a colossal waste of my time.

Penryn, our young heroine, is as amazing as they come. I absolutely loved how she was always either saving her own butt or saving the hero’s butt and that, my friends, in my book counts as a truly independent woman. Despite her young years she was so mentally ahead of many seventeen-year-olds I know, but when she broke down crying after seeing the destruction of what was left of her city nearly brought me to tears.

Now Raffe is a whole ‘nother train of thought. I loved him as the hero, I loved his mysteriousness and his loner boy attitude. I loved that he was never overwhelming in his need to be the savior, and instead let Penryn handle things on her own. I loved his sense of humor and most of all, I loved how he showed his true feelings at the end, it was so romantic and unexpected because I have grown accustomed of his hiding them.

The book is an action story but it hold much more, the love between sisters, the struggles to love a mentally-ill mother, falling in love for the first time and falling in love with someone you can’t have. So many feelings going on and it never felt crowded, Susan Ee masterly manages to craft a beautiful, complex story that still felt light enough.

I have to say though, that some part of me still feels unsatisfied. I see the potential and think this series can become something pretty amazing and I'm counting on it. I seriously cannot wait to see what happens next because even though SO MUCH happened in this book, it left room for so much more to happen in the next ones.

IN THE AFTER
by Demitria Lunetta

They hear the most silent of footsteps.
They are faster than anything you've ever seen.
And They won't stop chasing you...until you are dead.

Amy is watching TV when it happens, when the world is attacked by Them. These vile creatures are rapidly devouring mankind. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to escape—and even rescue “Baby,” a toddler left behind in the chaos. Marooned in Amy’s house, the girls do everything they can to survive—and avoid Them at all costs.

After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she’ll lose Baby—and much more.

Rebellious, courageous, and tender, this unforgettable duo will have you on the edge of your seat as you tear through the pulse-pounding narrow escapes and horrifying twists of fate in this thrilling debut from author Demitria Lunetta.

Dude. There's few things I love more thank kids. I just loooooove babies. And when you combined them with YA books I will sure line up a day before this is on sale. Also I just had the best experience with a dytopian book (read about it tomorrow) and a new hope has risen inside of me, can't wait to try this out.

I am not ashamed to say that I am Dessen's #1 obsessive fan and this is my whole being right now:

This is too much to take. The new covers are so freaking gorgeous and I want them all and this book takes back to Colby and OMG I can't wait to see which charcaters from her previous books show up!
(I hope is Dexter & Remy)
(or Owen & Anabelle)
(or Ruby & Nate)

Waiting on Wednesday: The Testing

WoW is weekly meme created by Jill at Breaking The Spine in which bloggers can share books they're excited to get soon :)

The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Isn’t that what they say? But how close is too close when they may be one in the same?

The Seven Stages War left much of the planet a charred wasteland. The future belongs to the next generation’s chosen few who must rebuild it. But to enter this elite group, candidates must first pass The Testing—their one chance at a college education and a rewarding career.
Cia Vale is honored to be chosen as a Testing candidate; eager to prove her worthiness as a University student and future leader of the United Commonwealth. But on the eve of her departure, her father’s advice hints at a darker side to her upcoming studies--trust no one.
But surely she can trust Tomas, her handsome childhood friend who offers an alliance? Tomas, who seems to care more about her with the passing of every grueling (and deadly) day of the Testing. To survive, Cia must choose: love without truth or life without trust.

It's time for a great dystopian, don't you think?
and I'm hoping The Testing will deliver because I need to fall back in love with that genre.

AND I'm always up for "handsome childhood friends" :D

Review: Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson

In Valkyrie Rising there’s lots of action happening in only 32 hours. I liked that, I like that it’s fast-paced but not rushed. I had never heard of Valkyries before (or maybe I had but had forgotten) but the thing is, I was never overwhelmed by the all the new information coming into my brain, I think the author did a wonderful job of intertwining the Norwegian legends and Ellie’s modern story.

Ellie is fed up being just the little sister of the ubber popular Graham and is trying to get the courage to stand out on her own. Ellie, Graham and their hot-as-the-sun neighbor Tucker are off to spend the summer with Graham & Ellie’s grandmother in Norway and the story starts to unravel from there.

While I think I liked Ellie at the end, I still had a hard time connecting with her. I never got why it was so hard for her to stood up to her brother, I mean that’s one of the easiest things, siblings are born to do that, it’s natural. It also bothered me that she was so gorgeous and all that, nothing against gorgeous girls, some of them are gorgeous on the inside but some part of you doesn’t want to be her friend (or is that just me and my jealousy talking?).

The best part for me was definitely the romance. Tuck & Ellie were adorable together and totally meant to be, and everyone knows I’m a sucker for girl&boy-best-friends-realize-they-have-feelings-for-eachother stories so this one hit right on target. I loved every single one of their scenes together and their constant tug-and-pull relationship, it made the book for me.

I think part of my problem with is that I’m kind of not turned on by fantasy/paranormal/dystopian books anymore, they kind of bore me and I find myself skipping pages. So it’s not this book’s fault, I think. But I also can’t deny that this was no blow your mind kind of book, but it was good, and cute, and I don’t regret it.
